Gerald Weinberg proposed a rule of thumb to calculate the waste caused by project switching:

    Wow! This is a rule of thumb for something we all know and complaint about.. If we take it for granted that working on a single project at a time is no longer an option, at least we must be ware of too much loss.

    The multitasking self we’ve all grown expands also to how often we check our smart phone, how we react to instant messages and alerts etc. We expect people to respond to our message simultaneously – they’re connected, they’re online, they should reply within seconds….

    Think of it and then just try to put your own rules to minimize loss of concentration!
